Installation of Expressway Noise Barriers near Housing Estates

Mr Liang Eng Hwa asked the Minister for Transport whether LTA will speed up the installation of noise barriers along expressways that are very near to housing estates such as the Bukit Timah Expressway and Kranji Expressway.

Mr Lui Tuck Yew: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is carrying out a trial installation of noise barriers at three locations, namely, the Anak Bukit Flyover of the Pan-Island Expressway, the West Coast Highway and a new flyover along Braddell Road. The trial will allow LTA to evaluate the effectiveness and visual impact of such barriers as well as ascertain the challenges in installation and maintenance. This will take some time, but LTA will try to conclude the trial as early as possible and assess the suitability of these noise barriers for other locations.
