WORKING FROM HOME
26.
Mdm Ho Geok Choo asked the Minister for Manpower how many employers in Singapore allow their employees to work from home.
Mr Gan Kim Yong: According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Manpower in 2008, about 1.3% of the establishments have put in place telecommuting arrangements to allow their employees to work from home. The extent of such arrangements varies across different industries depending on the work nature of the industries. For example, up to 7.4% of the establishments in the Information and Communication sector offer telecommuting arrangements.
However, telecommuting is only one form of flexible work arrangements. About 28% of establishments in the private sector have implemented various forms of flexible work arrangements such as part-time employment, staggered working hours, flexi-time, or telecommuting from home. This is an improvement from about 24% in 2006. The Ministry will continue to encourage employers to adopt flexible work arrangements. Employers can apply for the Work-Life Works! Fund (WoW! Fund) to introduce work-life measures at the workplace, or tap on the Flexi-Works! Scheme to recruit new workers on part-time or flexible work arrangements.
