Ms Sylvia Lim asked the Minister for Manpower why the Government does not release employment data with Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents as distinct categories, rather than grouping the two categories together as "Residents".
Mr Gan Kim Yong: The Ministry of Manpower regularly publishes employment figures based on resident population which captures Singapore citizens (SCs) and permanent residents (PRs) as a single group. Many other countries do not publish employment statistics disaggregated by residential status in their regular labour market update.

Due to the resources required, the Ministry does not routinely track employment data disaggregated by Singapore citizens and permanent residents. Nevertheless, MOM publishes occasional papers from time to time on employment statistics with such a breakdown. In February last year, MOM released an occasional study which disaggregated employment data by Singapore citizens, permanent residents and foreigners.
