HOME IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME AT TOA PAYOH LORONG 8
29.
Mr Chiam See Tong asked the Minister for National Development why were the flats at Blocks 213 to 224 of Lorong 8 Toa Payoh not selected for the Home Improvement Programme if the age of the buildings is the main criterion.
Mr Mah Bow Tan: Flats are eligible for the Home Improvement Programme (HIP) if they were built in 1986 or before and have not undergone the Main Upgrading Programme (MUP).
Blks 213 to 224 Lorong 8 Toa Payoh are among some 300,000 flats eligible for the HIP. Given this large number of eligible flats, there is a need to prioritise the blocks to be upgraded under the HIP.
Besides the age of the flats, there are other criteria for selection of precincts for the HIP. These include the condition of the flats, geographical spread and support for Government programmes.
