Mr J.B. Jeyaretnam asked the Acting Minister for Community Development if he will explain why halls in community centres may not be made available for the holding of public forums for citizens.
Mr Wong Kan Seng: Community centres are government agencies. They organise social, cultural, educational, sports and recreational activities in accordance with the government's objectives and regulations.
Forums and dialogue sessions, initiated by the Community Centre Management Committees (CCMCs), are held periodically to allow government leaders and officials to exchange views and explain government policies and issues to the public.
No political party is allowed to hold its political activities in the community centres.
