HOUSE-CLEANING AND HOME-MEALS SERVICES

Mdm Claire Chiang See Ngoh asked the Minister for National Development whether the Housing and Development Board will encourage and support the creation of affordable house-cleaning and home-meal catering services to service the needs of HDB households to ease the burden of working couples who cannot afford to hire foreign domestic help.

Mr Lim Hng Kiang: House-cleaning and home-meal catering are provided by private operators and the costs of such services are determined by market forces. If there is enough demand by HDB households for such services, private operators will set them up accordingly. HDB will leave it to the private sector to carry out such services.
