Dr S Vasoo asked the Minister for Health whether the centralised system of bulk purchasing of drugs and equipment has been implemented for restructured hospitals.
Mr Yeo Cheow Tong: Currently, standard drugs are centrally procured by the Pharmaceutical Department of my Ministry for restructured and Government hospitals, polyclinics and other institutions. This allows each of them to enjoy better prices and uniform quality and to pass on the savings to their patients.
For non-standard drugs and equipment, each restructured hospital carries out its own procurement. This allows them to respond more quickly to their own specific requirements.
