Construction Cost of Covered Linkways

Ms Sun Xueling asked the Minister for Transport (a) what is the average cost of constructing a covered linkway per 100 metres; (b) what is the total amount spent on constructing covered linkways in the past five years; and (c) how many kilometres of covered linkways have been built in the past five years.

Mr Khaw Boon Wan: Over the past five years, the Government has spent about $330 million to construct close to 160 kilometres of covered linkways. These were funded under various programmes and schemes: LTA's Walk2Ride programme, HDB's development of public housing estates, and the Community Improvement Projects Committee (CIPC) scheme. The cost of the covered linkways averaged about $210,000 per 100 metres.
