Asst Prof Mahdev Mohan asked the Minister for Law in each year since 2011 (a) what is the number of pre-trial remandees who have been offered the option of being released on bail but do not avail themselves of it; and (b) how many persons within this group have been ultimately remanded for a longer period of time than their custodial sentences or have been given non-custodial sentences or acquitted by the courts.

Mr K Shanmugam: We do not track the number of pre-trial remandees who have been offered the option of being released on bail but do not avail themselves of it.
