Ms Joan Pereira asked the Minister for Transport if the Ministry will consider requiring all buses to be fitted with intelligent sensors to assist bus drivers when approaching curbs at bus stops as a measure to prevent the elderly from falling between the bus door and curb, especially when alighting.
Mr Khaw Boon Wan: Bus captains are trained to pull up to within half a metre from the kerb at bus stops, and to ensure commuters have alighted safely before moving off. To help them to do so, LTA is studying the feasibility of sensors that can detect the kerb and objects around the bus.
