Mr Ang Hin Kee asked the Minister for Transport whether the Ministry will be implementing additional measures besides planting more trees and using more porous road mixtures to minimise the noise level arising from the expansion works and heavy vehicular traffic along stretches of the Central Expressway facing residential homes especially those near Seletar and Sunrise estates.
Mr Lui Tuck Yew: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is currently trialling road noise barriers at four locations with high traffic volumes and noise levels, namely the Anak Bukit Flyover of the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), the new flyover along Braddell Road, the West Coast Highway, and the section of the PIE next to Swiss View and Greenbank Park. The trials will allow LTA to evaluate the effectiveness and visual impact of noise barriers, as well as better understand the challenges in their installation, maintenance and design. Thereafter, LTA will consider the feasibility of installing such noise barriers at other locations.
