Mr Ang Hin Kee asked the Minister for Transport whether the Ministry has plans to extend the MRT networks to link Punggol directly to Yio Chu Kang and Seletar towns as these towns are currently only accessible by roads from Punggol and the population at neighbouring Sengkang has expanded.
Mr Lui Tuck Yew: Currently, commuter travel between Punggol and the Yio Chu Kang and Seletar towns can be sufficiently supported by buses. LTA is also studying the implementation of a new bus service to connect the north and north-east regions, as part of the Bus Service Enhancement Programme. As with other towns, LTA will continue to monitor travel demand and study the feasibility of new rail lines where necessary.
