Soon after being elected to the First Legislative Assembly, Dr Goh was appointed as Singapore's first Minister for Finance. Over a parliamentary career spanning 25 years, Dr Goh had served the nation in various capacities, holding appointments as Minister for Finance, Minister for Interior and Defence, Minister for Defence, and Minister for Education.
