PERMANENT RESIDENTS IN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS
18.
Mr Baey Yam Keng asked the Minister for Education at the primary school level (a) what is the number of permanent residents studying in international schools in Singapore in each of the years from 2006-2009; (b) how do these numbers compare with the number of PRs in our national schools; and (c) whether the proportion of PRs in our national schools is reflective of the proportion of PRs in the population.
Dr Ng Eng Hen: PRs comprise 10%, or about 26,000 of the enrolment in our national primary schools. This would be less than the 13% PR proportion in the resident population. About 2,600 PRs or around 10% of all PRs of primary school-going age are enrolled in international schools.
