NOMINATED MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT:

Mr Speaker: The term of service of the nine Nominated Members of Parliament

appointed on 18th January 2007 expired on 17th July 2009.

The Special Select Committee nominated the following nine persons to the President for appointment as Nominated Members of Parliament to fill the vacancies:

Mr Calvin Cheng Ern Lee;

Mr Terry Lee Kok Hua;

Mrs Mildred Tan-Sim Beng Mei;

Assoc. Prof. Paulin Tay Straughan;

Mr Teo Siong Seng;

Mr Viswaroopan s/o Sadasivan;

Mr Laurence Wee Yoke Thong;

Ms Audrey Wong Wai Yen; and

Ms Joscelin Yeo Wei Ling.

On 16th July 2009, President S R Nathan, by Instruments of Appointment dated 18th July 2009, appointed the nine Members as NMPs for a term of two and a half years with effect from 18th July 2009.

The Nominated Members of Parliament are present today to take their seats. They will now take their oath or affirmation of allegiance.
