EXPORTS OF WEAPONS TO MYANMAR BY SINGAPORE TRADING COMPANY

Mr Siew Kum Hong asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether he will provide an update on the investigation into allegations that a Singapore trading company had been involved in North Korean exports of weapons to Myanmar.

Mr George Yong-Boon Yeo: We take proliferation issues seriously and the allegation of a Singapore link in the export of rocket launchers to Myanmar has been thoroughly investigated. There is no evidence that any Singaporean company was involved in the alleged transaction, or indeed that the transaction in fact occurred. Our agencies will continue to monitor the situation closely and undertake enforcement actions, if necessary.
