PARTICIPATION RATE OF PRs IN COMMUNITY EVENTS
10.
Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim asked the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports what is the trend of the participation rate of Permanent Residents in community events over the last five years.
Dr Vivian Balakrishnan: The People's Association (PA) and the grassroots organisations welcome all residents, including Permanent Residents (PRs), to take part in its community activities. This can help the PRs settle in faster and fit in better with the local community. This will also enable them to build strong social bonds, which will be a positive influence for those considering taking up citizenship.
Until recently, PA has not tracked PR participation in grassroots activities. However, as an indication, PA had only 1,400 Community Club members who were PRs in 2002. PA now has over 14,500 Passion Card members who are PRs. Passion Card membership replaced Community Club membership in 2005.
