REMUNERATION OF DEPUTY SPEAKERS

REMUNERATION OF DEPUTY SPEAKERS: Mdm Deputy Speaker, I beg to move,

That, pursuant to Article 42(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore, each Deputy Speaker shall be paid with effect from 1st April 2007:

(1) a monthly allowance equal to 15% of the monthly salary payable to the Speaker; and

(2) a GDP Bonus pegged at 50% of the GDP Bonus rates payable to the Speaker.

Madam, the allowance payable to the Deputy Speakers had been set at a percentage of the actual salary received by the incumbent Speaker. In line with the recent salary revisions announced by the Minister in charge of the Civil Service for Ministers and civil servants, the Deputy Speakers will also be paid a GDP Bonus. Parliament is asked to approve the Motion, which will peg the Deputy Speakers' allowance to 15% of the Speaker's part-time salary and 50% of the GDP Bonus rates payable to the Speaker.
