Ms Gho Sze Kee asked the Minister for National Development (a) what were the findings of the follow-up one-year trial of nicarbazin-based feed conducted at Waterloo Street in 2016 to assess its effectiveness in controlling the urban pigeon population; and (b) why the use of nicarbazin was not subsequently pursued following the trials at Palmer Road and Waterloo Street.

Mr Chee Hong Tat: Between 2015 and 2017, then-Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) trialled nicarbazin-based feed to manage pigeon populations at Palmer Road and Waterloo Street. The trials found that the feed was ineffective in Singapore's context, which was consistent with findings from international studies. Hence, then-AVA did not pursue its use further.
