Ms Cassandra Lee asked the Minister for Transport (a) whether the Traffic Police tracks offences involving the use of curtains or sunshades on driver-side windows while driving; (b) if so, whether there has been an upward trend of such offences; (c) what penalties apply; and (d) whether enforcement will be stepped up, in light of recent measures to strengthen enforcement against unsafe driving behaviours.
Mr Jeffrey Siow: My response will also address Written Question No 58 in yesterday's Sitting. [Please refer to "Assessment of Visibility-related Incidents and Enforcement Actions Involving Removable Front Side Window Sunshades While Driving", Official Report, 6 October 2026, Vol 96, Issue 38, Written Answers to Questions section.]
The use of curtains or sunshades on side windows while driving is not allowed as it obscures the driver's visibility of the roads and surroundings. Motorists found to be using such curtains or sunshades while driving will be issued warnings and asked to take them down. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Traffic Police do not track the number of warnings issued.
The maximum penalty for this offence is up to $2,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 6 months.
LTA will continue to monitor the situation and step up enforcement efforts, where necessary.
