Mr Gabriel Lam asked the Minister for Transport (a) whether LTA has studied what proportion of Sembawang residents' longer commute times is attributable to first-mile travel, including waiting and transfer times to reach an MRT station; and (b) whether there are parts of Sembawang and Canberra where this component is significantly longer than in comparable residential towns.
Mr Jeffrey Siow: Based on the Land Transport Authority's (LTA's) data, first-and-last mile travel times to the nearest MRT station for Sembawang and Canberra residents are comparable to other residential towns. LTA will continue to make efforts to shorten public transport journey times, including reducing waiting and transfer times.
