** SUSPENSION OF STANDING ORDERS **
The Deputy Leader of the House (Mr Mah Bow Tan): Mr Speaker, Sir, may I seek your consent and the general assent of hon. Members present to move that the proceedings on item 1 standing on the Order Paper be exempted from the provisions of Standing Order No. 48(7) in respect of Members' speeches during the debate on the President's Speech.
Some Members have indicated that they wish to speak in more than one of the official languages in the course of their speech during this debate on the President's Address. Therefore, I propose that we make an exception for them on this occasion by lifting Standing Order No. 48(7) to enable them to do so.
Mr Speaker: I give my consent. Does the Deputy Leader of the House have the general assent of hon. Members present to so move?
Hon. Members: indicated assent.
Resolved,
That the proceedings on item 1 standing on the Order Paper be exempted from the provisions of Standing Order No. 48(7) in
Column: 265
respect of Members' speeches on that item. - [Mr Mah Bow Tan].
