Order for Second Reading read.

The Minister for Health (Mr A. J. Braga): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move, "That the Bill be now read a Second time."

This, I have no doubt hon. Members will agree with me, is not a contentious Bill. The Objects and Reasons of this Bill are clearly set out there. The amendment is necessary so that 78 nurses can be registered owing to a defect in the previous Ordinance.

Under section 4 (2) (c) of the present Ordinance, "existing nurses" were enabled to apply for registration within a period of two years after the date of coming into force of the Ordinance, which, in effect, meant that those who applied before the 15th November, 1952, could be considered for registration.

Now there are 78 persons who, owing to the fact that the Registrar of the Nursing Board had lost sight of the date, are unable to register.

Question put, and agreed to.

Bill accordingly read a Second time.
