Mr Lee Kuan Yew asked the Financial Secretary how many people in Singapore for the years 1950 to 1954 had incomes of between $1,500 and $2,500, $2,500 and $5,000, $5,000 and $10,000, $10,000 and $30,000, $30,000 and $50,000, and of more than $50,000.

Mr T. M. Hart: I regret that the information required is not available in the precise form in which it is sought. On the other hand, the Income Tax Department Statistical Abstracts for the years 1950 to 1954 give detailed information about the number of taxpayers in the various assessed income groups which correspond closely to those specified in the question. Reference is invited to these Abstracts.
