[Mr SPEAKER in the Chair]

The Chief Minister: Mr Speaker, Sir, may I have your consent and the assent of this House under Standing Order 72 to move under Standing Order 7 (11),

That the proceedings on item 5 on the Order Paper be exempted from the provisions of Standing Order 7.

Mr Speaker: Have I the assent of hon. Members?

Mr R. Jumabhoy (Telok Ayer): On a point of information, Sir. May I ask what happens, Sir, if the sitting were to continue till about seven or eight o'clock in the evening?

Mr Speaker: I might explain the position. There may be some misunderstanding about the whole position. The position is that if hon. Members agree that Standing Order 7 be suspended in respect of item 5, then this Assembly will continue to consider item 5 after the moment of interruption until its completion. At its completion, the Assembly will automatically stand adjourned until Monday when the remaining items on the Order Paper will no doubt be considered. That is the position if, of course, hon. Members agree to the motion. First, I must have the assent of hon. Members that that motion be moved.

Mr Marshall: No, Sir.
