Mr A. P. Rajah asked the Prime Minister to state how many bus shelters have been erected by the City Council from 5th December, 1957, to 31st October, 1959; how many of such shelters have had to be repaired or require repair due to faulty construction; and the cost of such repairs.
Mr Lee Kuan Yew: The number of bus shelters erected by the City Council from the 5th December, 1957, to the 31st October, 1959, is 222. Three shelters have had to be repaired due to faulty construction at a cost of $5,720, and 22 shelters have had to be strengthened as a precautionary measure at a cost of $7,700.
Mr Rajah: If there is negligence which is responsible for the additional cost, will the Prime Minister see to it that the necessary action is taken to have the City Council reimbursed?
Mr Lee Kuan Yew: I am sure that, if proof can be found for negligence, the proper legal remedies will be set afoot.
