Mrs Seow Peck Leng asked the Minister for Labour and Law when will the Women's Charter be reintroduced in this Assembly and the reason for the delay in reintroducing it.
The Minister for Health (Inche Ahmad Bin Ibrahim) (for the Minister for Labour and Law): (In Malay): Mr Speaker. Sir, it has been necessary to consider carefully the evidence given to the Select Committee on the former Women's Charter Bill. There have been conferences and consultations with women's organisations and other interested persons. As a result, several improvements will be included in the new Bill. The Bill will be re-introduced into the Legislative Assembly as soon as the amendments have been incorporated in the Bill.
Mrs Seow Peck Leng: Mr Speaker, Sir, could the Minister inform the House as to when the Women's Charter will be re-introduced into this Assembly?
Inche Ahmad Bin Ibrahim: (In Malay): As I said Just flow, this matter is being looked into by the Ministry, and when finalised, the amendments will be incorporated into the Bill. Therefore it is not wise for me at this juncture to give a definite date for the re-introduction of this Bill into the Legislative Assembly.
