Dr Thio Chan Bee asked the Minister for Home Affairs to state (i) the total number of new voters in the revised electoral register for the Electoral Division of Anson; and (ii) the numbers of such new voters as have been transferred from each of the other Electoral Divisions, giving the numbers Division by Division.

The Prime Minister (Mr Lee Kuan Yew) (for the Minister for Home Affairs): In answer to the learned doctor, may I say that the number of new voters who were not found in the 1959 register for the electoral division of Anson but who will appear in the electoral register for 1961 will be 2,268.

There are also 221 claims submitted by persons during the inspection of the registers for the period 8th to 22nd May. If these claims are valid, then 221 more names will also appear as new voters in the 1961 electoral register before Polling Day.

As to the second half of the question, the Statistics Department has not classified figures according to transfers from one constituency to another. The average increase for each constituency is 2,700 voters.
