Mr David Marshall asked the Minister for National Development whether he will make a statement on the Bedok Reclamation Scheme, and whether any extension thereof is being considered.
Mr Tan Kia Gan: Sir, I do not propose to add much to what the Prime Minister stated in his speech in the debate on the Yang di-Pertuan Negara's Speech of 8th April, 1963.
The Housing and Development Board is proceeding with the pilot project which will entail the reclamation of 48 acres near the Fisheries School at Bedok, 8½ milestone. This project is expected to be completed in about three months' time. Initially, it is intended that the reclaimed area will be an open park. In the meantime, the technical and financial aspects of reclaiming further land from Bedok to Nicoll Highway are under consideration.
Mr David Marshall: Could the Minister indicate the anticipated cost of this reclamation?
Mr Tan Kia Gan: This pilot project will cost about $600,000 when completed.
