Mr Koo Young asked the Minister for Education how many principals, teachers, clerks and school servants in all Government and aided Chinese schools, respectively, have been dismissed since 1st January, 1963; and the grounds of dismissal.
Mr Ong Pang Boon: Mr Speaker, Sir, for the period 1st January to 30th November this year three principals, six teachers, one clerk, one school servant and one watchman in Government schools and Government aided Chinese schools have been dismissed. Of the 12, six were dismissed by the School Management Committees, or principal, while the rest, that is six, were dismissed on the instructions of the Ministry. The number of cases and grounds for dismissal were as follows: -
For unsatisfactory work and conduct, three teachers and two servants.
For being unable to render proper school accounts, two principals and one teacher.
For moral turpitude, one principal.
For absence without leave, one clerk.
For undertaking full-time job, one teacher.
For being responsible for leakage of school terminal examination papers, one teacher.
Mr Koo Young: (In Mandarin): Mr Speaker, Sir, from what I understand, about 10 school clerks were sacked during the vacation. Is it a fact?
Mr Speaker: The answer has already been given by the Minister. I do not think it calls for an answer unless the Minister wants to answer it.
Mr Ong Pang Boon: Mr Speaker, Sir, the Member for Thomson asks for the figures for dismissal and I have given them to him.
Mr Speaker: I am afraid we have not got time for questions No. 8 to 11. They will be dealt with when next we meet.
