Mr Speaker: I have received from Mr Lim Huan Boon, the Member for Bukit Merah, a letter dated 31st December, 1965, which was received by me at 3.50 this afternoon.

He writes as follows:

`I hereby tender my resignation as a Member of Parliament for the Constituency of Bukit Merah as from the date thereof.'

He also gave his reasons for his resignation which advanced into a number of paragraphs. As I have on a previous occasion said that the Speaker is not involved in the reasons for the resignation of a Member, in this instance also, it is no part of my business. My duty is to inform the House of his resignation and that the seat is now vacant. I take it that appropriate action will be taken.
