Mr Ang Nam Piau asked the Minister for Finance whether any Government funds have been invested overseas since Singapore Day, the amount of such investments and in what countries.
Mr Tang See Chim (for the Minister for Finance): Mr Speaker, Sir, soon after the devaluation of Sterling, the Government issued details of holdings of our overseas assets. The object of this statement was to inform the public of the soundness of the backing of the currency of the Republic. The position has remained basically the same except that there has been an increase in our external assets.
