PALEMBANG HOUSING ESTATE (Market)

Mr Low Yong Nguan asked the Minister for Law and National Development if he will ascertain from the Housing and Development Board whether the Board plans to build a market in the vicinity of the present Palembang Housing Estate.

Mr Barker: Mr Speaker, Sir, the Urban Renewal Department has plans to build a market on a vacant site between North Bridge Road and Rochore Canal in the vicinity of Palembang Housing Estate. Piling for the project is expected to begin towards the end of this year, and it is expected that the market will be completed by the end of next year. The market will provide about 450 stalls to resettle hawkers in Precinct North 1 and the stallholders in Clyde Terrace Market.
