Mr Teong Eng Siong asked the Minister for Law and National Development if he will give details of the occupation licences, rentals and other conditions for premises in the proposed multi-storey building for pig-rearing at the Sembawang Field Station.

The Minister for Law and National Development (Mr E. W. Barker): Mr Speaker, Sir, a piece of State land at Bah Soon Pah Road to the north of the Primary Production Department's Sembawang Field Experimental Station has been set aside for pig farming. The land has been sub-divided into eight lots of about five acres each. These lots will be let out to interested pig farmers on a 30-year lease at an annual rent of about $1,600 per acre, which amounts to about six per cent of the freehold value of the land at about 60 cents per square foot. It will be a condition of the lease that the development of the land must be completed within two years from the date of possession of the site. Lessees are expected to employ modern intensive farming techniques, and preference will be given to those who make use of multi-storey structures and efficient methods of waste disposal.

The Primary Production Department will soon be inviting applications, and further details will then be supplied to interested applicants.
