The Minister for Trade and Industry (Mr Goh Chok Tong): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move the motion* standing in my name under item 3 in the Order Paper.

*The motion reads as follows:

That this Parliament, pursuant to section 7 of the Civil List and Pension Act (Chapter 52), resolves that the Schedule to the said Act be varied by deleting the figures "$257,900", "$935,900", "$229,820" and "$48,200" appearing in the second column thereof and substituting therefor the figures "$301,400", "$1,084,200", "$260,000" and "$42,600" respectively.

Sir, it is proposed to increase the provision for the Privy Purse (Class 1) and the Salaries of Personal Staff (Class 11) by $43,500 and $148,300 respectively to meet the 1979 NWC wage supplement and higher CPF contributions.

An increase of $30,180 for Expenses of the Istana Household (Class 111) is required mainly to meet rising costs of utility services and the maintenance of buildings and vehicles.

A sum of $42,600 has been provided under Special Services (Class IV) for the purchase of household appliances and the replacement of a tractor, two lawn mowers and two grasscutters.

It is, therefore, necessary to vary the provisions in the Schedule to the Civil List as follows:-

for the "Privy Purse" from $257,900 to $301,400;

for the "Salaries of Personal Staff" from $935,900 to $1,084,200;

for "Expenses of Household" from $229,820 to $260,000; and

for "Special Services" from $48,200 to $42,600.

Sir, I beg to move.

Question put, and agreed to.

Resolved,

That this Parliament, pursuant to section 7 of the Civil List and Pension Act (Chapter 52), resolves that the Schedule to the said Act be varied by deleting the figures "$257,900".
