Mr Rohan bin Kamis asked the Minister for National Development what progress has been made in the study to install closed-circuit television in Housing and Development Board lifts.

Mr Teh Cheang Wan: Mr Speaker, Sir, to check crimes and vandalism committed inside lifts, the Housing and Development Board started a pilot project on 1st May 1979 to install closed-circuit TV in the lifts of seven selected blocks of flats. The HDB is still monitoring the effectiveness of CCTV. To enable a better assessment of CCTV to be made, the Housing Board is also studying alternative systems of security in lifts. Results of the study are expected to be ready by the end of next year.
