[Mr Speaker in the Chair]
Encik Mansor Haji Sukaimi asked the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education if he will report on the progress and performance of the primary and secondary schools in Kampong Kembangan Constituency based on the PSLE and GCE 'O' results, respectively; and to state what measures, if any, the Ministry may take to bring about further improvements of the schools' progress and performance.
The Minister of State of Education (Dr Tay Eng Soon)(for the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education): Mr Speaker, Sir, the PSLE and 'O' level results of the primary and secondary schools in Kampong Kembangan Constituency for the past three years are attached (Cols. 395 - 396) to my reply and I shall hand this over to the Member for Kampong Kembangan afterwards. attached - PSLE RESULTS (1981-1983), GCE 'O' LEVEL RESULTS (1980-1982) (Cols. 395 - 396)
Many measures have been and are being taken by the Ministry of Education to improve the textbooks, teaching methods, audio visual aids and so on in our schools. The Member for Kampong Kembangan would be aware that they have been discussed and made public through the monthly Schools Council meetings. I would be happy to provide the Member with more details of these Ministry projects.
Encik Mansor Haji Sukaimi (Kampong Kembangan): Mr Speaker, Sir, does the Minister of State have any programme to visit my Constituency and to meet the principals and teachers of the secondary and primary schools in my Constituency to discuss matters of common interest? If so, when will that visit likely be?
Dr Tay Eng Soon: Sir, I would welcome an invitation, but it is a matter of time before I can comply. We have over 450 schools, and I have been visiting some schools.
