Maj Fong Sip Chee asked the Minister for National Development (1) if it is the Government's policy to intervene with the market forces in the property market in Singapore; and (2) if he agrees that statements made by Government ministers will affect property prices one way or the other and, if so, if there was any statement made as such.
Mr Teh Cheang Wan: It is not the Government's policy to intervene with the market forces in the property market in Singapore.
Statements made by Government Ministers, or for that matter any person, may have an effect on property prices depending on the nature of the statements and the interpretations given to them by potential property buyers and sellers. During the past few months, the Ministry has not made any statement intended to affect property prices.
