[Mr Speaker in the Chair]

The Leader of the House (Mr S. Dhanabalan): Mr Speaker, Sir, I am sure that, as we meet here this morning, the subject that is foremost in Members' minds is the tragedy of the collapse of Hotel New World. The Minister for Home Affairs wants to make a statement and I propose that he be allowed to make the statement first, and that whatever time is spent on the Statement and questions be compensated by extending Question Time beyond 12 o'clock so as to give one full hour to Questions for Oral Answer.

Sir, I therefore beg to move,

That under Standing Order 10(2) a Ministerial Statement be made by the Minister for Home Affairs now.

Question put, and agreed to.

Resolved,

That under Standing Order 10(2) a Ministerial Statement be made by the Minister for Home Affairs now.
