The following Question stood in the name of Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon -
Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon: To ask the Minister for National Development when the construction of the Jurong East Sports Complex at Jurong Town Hall Road/Boon Lay Way will begin.
Dr S. Vasoo (Tiong Bahru GRC): Question No. 1, Sir.
The Senior Minister of State for National Development (Dr Lee Boon Yang) (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, on 17th March 1988, I informed the Member for Yuhua that the Sports Complex at Jurong East is expected to be completed by the end of 1990.
Following a recent review of the use of land in the vicinity of Jurong Lake, my Ministry has decided to reserve the prime site at the junction of Jurong Town Hall Road and Boon Lay Way for comprehensive development. The proposed Jurong East Sports Complex will, therefore, be located to an alternative site. The complex is now expected to be ready by the end of 1991.
