Mr Chin Harn Tong asked the Minister for Communications and Information (a) how many Mass Rapid Transit stations now have adjacent bus interchanges; and (b) whether there are other MRT stations which could have adjacent bus interchanges but do not have them, and, if so, why.

The Senior Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications and Information (Mr Ho Kah Leong) (for the Minister for Communications and Information): Sir, I am answering on behalf of my Minister.

Sir, presently, there are a total of 11 MRT stations with bus interchanges in their vicinity. They are: Pasir Ris, Tampines, Eunos, Clementi, Jurong East, Bukit Batok, Toa Payoh, Bedok, Bishan, Ang Mo Kio and Yishun. Two more bus interchanges, one at Choa Chu Kang MRT Station and the other at Boon Lay MRT Station, are being constructed.

Sir, MRTC is actively working together with HDB to identify new areas where bus interchanges are needed and can be built.
