WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION ACT (Review of ceiling of compensation)

Encik Abbas Abu Amin asked the Minister for Labour whether he will consider reviewing the Workmen's Compensation Act with a view to increasing the ceiling of compensation in the light of improved wages of workers.

The Minister for Labour (Mr Lee Yock Suan): Mr Speaker, Sir, my Ministry is in the final stage of reviewing the Workmen's Compensation Scheme. Amongst other items, the maximum amount of compensation payable under the Workmen's Compensation Act will be revised, taking into consideration wage increases over the years since the previous revision in 1980.
