Mr Heng Chiang Meng asked the Minister for Communications whether there are plans to introduce toll roads.

The Minister of State for Communications (Mr Mah Bow Tan) (for the Minister for Communications): Mr Speaker, Sir, there are no plans to introduce toll roads. For the longer term, the Government has announced on many occasions its intention to introduce the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system.

With the introduction of tunnels, the Ministry of National Development will be monitoring the operations of these tunnels and should the need arise, some pricing may also be introduced, preferably via the ERP system.
