Dr Wang Kai Yuen asked the Minister for Communications, with the extension of the Mass Rapid Transit system to Woodlands, whether an extension to Johor Baru is under consideration and, if so, when will that be implemented.

The Minister of State for Communications (Mr Mah Bow Tan) (for the Minister for Communications): Mr Speaker, Sir, the possibility of extending the MRT from Woodlands to Johor Baru has been endorsed and agreed to in-principle by Ministers in Malaysia, the Menteri Besar of Johor and Ministers in Singapore. However, before such a decision can be taken, detailed feasibility studies must be carried out.

The Woodlands MRT line will be designed such that as and when it is decided to build an extension to Johor Baru, the connection can be easily made.
