The following Question stood in the name of Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon -
Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon: To ask the Minister for National Development whether there has been any progress in the sale of shophouses, particularly in Yuhua Neighbourhood 5 (Blocks 342, 343 and 345, Jurong East Street 21), after the policy of allowing shopkeepers to purchase their shops was introduced.
Mr Goh Choon Kang: Question No. 14, Sir.
Mr Dhanabalan: Mr Speaker, Sir, since mid-1988, HDB has sold, through open tender, a total of 537 new shops. As explained in my earlier reply to the Member for Ang Mo Kio, HDB is now working out a scheme for the sale of selected tenanted shops. Some of the shops in Yuhua Neighbourhood 5 will be considered for sale under the new scheme.
