Encik Ibrahim bin Othman asked the Minister for Communications whether the Public Transport Council will give approval for a feeder bus service connecting Bishan East, Bishan North, Sin Min and Shunfu Estates and, if so, when will the service be implemented.

The Minister for Communications (Mr Mah Bow Tan): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Public Transport Council has received an application from SBS to run a new bus service which will connect Bishan East, Bishan North, Sin Min and Shunfu Estates. In this application, SBS has also proposed withdrawing the existing Service 57 which will extensively duplicate this new service.

The Public Transport Council will be meeting later this month to deliberate on the applications made by SBS to introduce these two changes to the bus service in Bishan.

Encik Ibrahim bin Othman: Sir, could the Minister look into the possibility of expediting the implementation? I do not know whether the Minister is aware that the residents in that area have been asking for this service for more than two years, if I am not mistaken.

Mr Mah Bow Tan: Sir, I assure the Member that as soon as the Public Transport Council has deliberated and approved it, SBS should be in a position to implement it.
