Encik Harun bin A. Ghani asked the Minister for Education whether there is any special salary scale or incentive for teachers serving at the Curriculum Development Institute of Singapore.

The Minister of State for Education (Dr Aline K. Wong) (for the Minister for Education): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Curriculum Development Institute of Singapore (CDIS) is a Division of my Ministry. Teachers serving in the Institute and other HQ Divisions are Education Officers and their remunerations are in accordance with the Education Scheme of Service. CDIS officers develop instructional packages and supplementary materials. They also provide training and consultancy services to their colleagues in schools on the use of instructional materials.

I do not see the need to provide any special incentive for teachers to join the CDIS or any Division in the HQ. Teachers are interested to serve in the CDIS to gain experience in a different but challenging area of work.

Education Officers who hold positions of responsibility in the CDIS are eligible for promotion to the Senior Education Service if they satisfy the requisite criteria for promotion.
