Mr Cheo Chai Chen asked the Acting Minister for National Development whether he is aware of the parking problem outside the Embassy of the People's Republic of China at Dalvey Road and, if so, whether any remedial measures will be taken.

Mr Lim Hng Kiang: At present, there are 8 kerbside parking lots outside the Embassy and 12 parking lots within its compound. It is not possible to provide additional lots along the narrow road outside the Embassy. As the Embassy is in the midst of a residential estate, it has been advised to relocate its Embassy early, especially its Visa Issuing Office.

In view of complaints received from residents and other road users on obstruction to traffic and amenity problems, the URA has regularly taken action against motorists parking illegally outside the Embassy.
