[Mr Speaker in the Chair]
Encik Ibrahim bin Othman asked the Minister for Home Affairs whether a Neighbourhood Police Post will be set up in Bishan North Estate.
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Home Affairs (Assoc. Prof. Ho Peng Kee) (for the Minister for Home Affairs): Sir, Members will recall that I have replied to a similar Question on Monday, 20th March 1995. Police is currently reviewing the NPP system taking into account shifts in population due to the setting up of new towns. The request by Encik Ibrahim Othman will be considered in the review.
Encik Ibrahim bin Othman (Thomson GRC): Sir, how long will the review take and can the Parliamentary Secretary inform the House when is it likely that they will consider my request seriously?
Assoc. Prof. Ho Peng Kee: The entire review will be completed towards the end of 1996. But Police is looking into the situation to see whether, in the meantime, any new NPPs should be set up or any existing NPPs taken off. Over the next few months, the Police is likely to firm up some details.
