Although it is not possible for us to have perfect information about the future, we do know that some things never change, like Singapore_s small size and the keener competition that we will face. We therefore must be prepared for the future.
Singapore has many good things going for it. We occupy a strategic location in Asia, the next economic powerhouse of the world. Domestically, we have a competent Government, a hardworking and rational people, sound institutions and, above all, the will to succeed. I am therefore confident that we will be among the more prosperous cities of an affluent Asia in the 21st century.
